Rotator Cuff Pain
Possible Causes
Pain around the rotator cuff can develop following repetitive shoulder movements, increased training, heavy lifting or activities involving frequent reaching overhead.
The small muscles supporting the shoulder work alongside the upper back, chest and surrounding shoulder muscles, so tightness or overuse elsewhere can also affect how the area feels and moves. Sometimes pain can also follow a more specific strain or injury.
What It Feels Like
Symptoms of Rotator Cuff Pain
Pain or aching around the shoulder, particularly when raising your arm, reaching overhead or lowering it again.
Discomfort during lifting or training, especially with movements that place greater demand on the shoulder.
Weak, stiff or restricted movement that makes the affected shoulder feel less comfortable or confident to use.
How I Can Help
Treatment for Rotator Cuff Pain
Treatment can focus on muscular tension around the shoulder while also considering the upper back, chest and surrounding muscles that influence shoulder movement.
Sports massage and targeted soft tissue work may help ease tightness and support more comfortable mobility. Where symptoms suggest an injury requiring assessment, I’ll recommend seeking appropriate medical or physiotherapy advice rather than simply working through the pain.
